Rovaniemi is a really great city to visit. In winter the city is under a lot of snow but has always trucks to get the snow out of the road, small rocks on the pavement to prevent from falling.
Rovaniemi has a lot of green tracks and its is lovely to follow them along the river. Great places for children to play too.
For dinner time, I can recommend the MonteRosa restaurant in the city center. Great and friendly service from all the employees, excellent food and drinks. (I can recommend the salmon soup, the grilled salmon and the reindeer cooked two ways).
For lunch, I went to Cafe & Bar 21. It was busy from 12 to 15 (I guess very popular) but nonetheless very enjoyable. Combining the bar/coffee with Yuca (a mexican restaurant) is great because people can have different lunch if wished. The deserts are also excellent.
For the activities, everybody can found something that they like. For the french people you can found the Nordic Odyssey office to book activities with a french translator (even if the english explanation I had where really understanding). It can always be helpful for the people who can't speak english.
You can found supermarket everywhere and some of them are open until 22:00 which is great.

Great town with lots of things to do.
Great town with lots of things to do. It is definitely a walkable town, we walked everywhere. The food was really good everywhere we went. Don't forget to visit the northern most McDonald's, I did for the picture but my friend actually ate there and said it was good.
Lots of tour companies so make sure to walk around and get prices and then go for the tour. The prices are very reasonable considering the location, can't speak for high season but at least for us they were good. We visited in February. The weather was great, it was -0C but it was a dry cold so not over bearing. If you are chasing the Northern Lights, check out the weather. The clouds are enemy #1 for Northern Light chasers, trust me. It is possible to see them but the question is: how far are you willing to drive to see them?
I have nothing but good things to say about Rovaniemi, great people, good food, clean (dirty snow doesn't count) and I always felt safe.

I loved it all..the taxis are quite expensive but the bus was great..I loved it that much I wanted to extend my stay. I will be back to chase the Aurora, unfortunately it didn’t so due to skies full of snow.

Santa from the city center was better than the one in SCV (...
Santa from the city center was better than the one in SCV (at least for us). He was really communicative, giving us tips and tricks for aurora hunting. After we bought a picture we could take more with our own phone, made videos for our friends etc.
We love that there are different places where you can barbeque during the walking.
Lake from Artikum museum is a good place to see aurora. Loved the winter trails.
Souvenirs are cheaper in SCV than in the city center.

The centre of Rovaniemi is easy to get around and has plenty of shops and cafes, plus supermarkets if you're self-catering. It is a perfect snowy destination in winter. We visited the Snow Hotel (you need to dress up warmly as its pretty cold, but a vodka in the Ice Bar helps!) and also Santa Village, which is probably best for families with small children

The attractions there are very expensive.
The attractions there are very expensive. Some are nice, but, sometimes you feel like all they care about is how to take more and more money from us.
When you pay hundreds of euros for 1-2 hours attraction, is outraging.
Great hotel for a stop over as our flight was late into Finland. The room and bathroom was very clean, very quiet and comfortable. Overall I was impressed with how cheap it was and how well maintained the hotel was. Really good location - we paid 7 Euros for a bus from the airport which dropped us off right outside the hotel, very near to restaurants so we could go and have some food after a long day. Reception were very helpful and the breakfast was busy, but well managed and a good choice.
-So luxury, spacious, clean, very comfortable beds, quality & well completed facilities & amenities provided
-Stunning & beautiful river view infront cottage
-If you are lucky, you can see Northern Lights infront the cottage/kitchen..so amazing!
-Fast communication with the host, Milla.
-Overall we love our stay at Riverside Luxury Suites & good experience hunting the Aurora nearby Rovaniemi & advantage to see the Aurora infront of the cottage!Recommended property.
The most beautiful hotel we have ever stayed in! The attention to detail and quality of everything in the room is just exquisite. We booked a room as a treat on our anniversary and it was truly an experience from front door to the room! The breakfast was plentiful with dietary requirements acknowledged and the quality of produce was beautiful. Not a bad word to say, we would return to Rovaniemi just for Haawe any day! Thank you for making our day even more special
What a beautiful place ! The igloo surrounding by the forest is very cute, the view is beautiful ! You also have a great sauna. The best place to see Northern lights if the sky is clear enough.
We enjoyed the local food, the snowshoes and all nice time we had with the staff !
Just a thing you need to know, is that the shower isn’t in the igloo but in the Sauna, which was not an issue for us.
If you want an authentic experience, it’s the place you must go !
Loved everything about this hotel and would go back any time. We had the room with a sauna and it was so nice to come from the cold and just use the sauna.
Breakfast was delicious and for dinner chose the 5 course Surprise Menu which was incredible.
The ambience was lovely, they had candles everywhere and made it feel so cozy.
Staff is helpful and friendly. The location is perfect, just outside the city near a beautiful forest with trails, perfect to relax.
It was outstanding! We enjoyed the stay a lot, we had everything we needed in that room: good tasty food. There was no staff there because it's an apart hotel, but we can say that they organized our room in a cosy way. Everything was available.
The staff wrote a very kind note that I took as a souvenir. We really loved to stay there... We loved every single detail and we thank everyone who made an effort to make it as cosy as possible!
Excellent location for going into Rovaniemi and access to Santa Village and attractions. Great for kids too as sledging and park opposite. Excellent facilities for washing and drying clothes too. The owner had excellent communication before our arrival and throughout our stay, giving us tips and tricks for getting around. I was really nervous about not using a mainstream hotel company but I was so happy! Really warm and quiet too!
A great hotel centrally located in Rovaniemi town centre. Easy walking distance (even in minus 19 degrees) to the local shops, restaurants and lots of activities. If you want to go to Santa Park, or Santa's Village, the bus stop is literally alongside the hotel, and comes regularly.
We had a great stay, comfy beds, lovely staff and great full breakfast included. There was really nothing more we could have asked for.
The house was in perfect condition, we enjoyed every moment we stayed. Eine thought about everything for us kitchen stuff was awesome and, everything was super clean. The bed was incredibly comfy.. We felt like our home. Special thanks to Eine again she was one of the nicest person I have ever met in Finland.
The breakfast was great! The location of the hotel is also perfect as it is really close to any major point of interest in Rovaniemi and to the bus stop going to Santa Claus's village. What was also really nice is that we could project our laptop screen to the TV in the room to watch some HBO shows! :)
We love to have our own spa and sauna. The room is so spacious. it has two beds upstairs and sofa bed down stairs. They are the most comfortable bed in the entire trip. The hotel is very new and modern. The dinner and breakfast is amazing. very high end. Loved it!
the breakfast spread was amazing, the service was fantastic and helpful, everything was clean, and the sauna was par excellence. even the lounge area was great- you could read books on Finland in their solarium or by the fireplace. seriously no complaints.
The experience of staying in an igloo room was very cool despite not seeing the northern lights. I also really liked that the property had tons of activities on site so you didn't have to leave if you didn't want to
Modern equipment, beautiful location, ability to regulate the heating, reindeer next to the reception and a great restaurant at the hotel. All highlights (or start of many tours) are within walking distance.
excellent apartments, very well functioning and ideal for a family. the hotel offers excellent spa and play room for children - and with a rental car all offers in Rovaniemi can be reached in 15 min.
We really enjoyed our staying in Rovaniemi in this new building of apartments. Our flat was so clean , warm and cosy. 5 stars for the heating system in the floor and for the sauna! 🤩
