Sallan kansallispuisto kattaa 9 983 hehtaaria erämaiden peittämiä vanhoja metsiä. Sen vaellusreitit johtavat jääkauden muovaamiin harjuihin ja rotkoihin sekä kirkasvetisiin lampiin. Kansallispuiston alueen Ison Pyhätunturin huipulta voi ihailla Venäjän avoimia maisemia ja tuntureita.
Tänä vuonna Suomen 41. kansallispuiston hoito- ja käyttösuunnitelmaa valmistelee Metsähallitus. Suunnitelmassa sovitetaan yhteen luonnonsuojelun, virkistyskäytön ja muun käytön tavoitteet ja tarpeet seuraavien 10–15 vuoden aikana.
Keskeisiä ja merkittäviä kysymyksiä käyttäjille suunnittelussa ovat esimerkiksi luonnonarvojen turvaaminen, erilaiset käyttövyöhykkeet sekä reittien ja palvelurakenteiden sijoittelu. Suunnitelman jälkeen kansallispuistolle annetaan käytännesäännöt.
Käyttäjien kokemukset kullan arvoisia
Hoito- ja käyttösuunnitelman laativat Metsähallituksen luontopalveluiden asiantuntijat. Osallistavan suunnittelun periaatteiden mukaisesti alueen käyttäjiä ja sidosryhmiä kuunnellaan. Keskeisten sidosryhmien yhteistyöryhmä keskustelee linjauksista ja ydinkysymyksistä työn eri vaiheissa.

Salla National Park Management
Salla National Park is 9,983 hectares of highlands of wilderness-covered old-growth forests. Hiking trails lead to ridges and gorges shaped by the ice age, as well as to clear-water ponds. From the top of Iso Pyhätunturi you can admire the wide-open landscapes and the fells of Russia.
Finland received its 41st National Park at the beginning of last year. Together with stakeholders, Metsähallitus is preparing a management and use plan for the brand-new Salla National Park.
Plans for the Future
The plan reconciles the goals and needs of nature conservation, recreational use and other uses for the next 10–15 years. Key and significant issues for users in planning include, for example, safeguarding natural values, different zones of use, and the placement of routes and service structures. After the plan, the national park will be given a code of conduct.

The management and use plan is drawn up by the experts of Metsähallitus Nature Services. It is drawn up in accordance with the principles of participatory planning, listening to the users and interested parties in the area. To support the planning, a cooperation group of key stakeholders has been established to discuss the plan’s policies and core issues at different stages of the planning.
The plan has been in consultation in the beginning of 2023 and after that Ministry of Environment will confirm the completed plan.
